About Us
Grantsburg Area Food Shelf is a nonprofit organization run by nine area churches. It serves families and individuals in the Grantsburg School District. The churches provide food, financial donations, and volunteer workers to the food shelf with added support from community businesses, civic groups, schools, and individuals. Grantsburg Area Food Shelf is an Equal Opportunity Provider providing TEFAP USDA Foods.
The food shelf appreciates volunteers to help make its vision a reality. We’ll help you find a way to volunteer that best suits you, whether through a donation or volunteer work. We’re excited to have you join the team!

History of Grantsburg Food Shelf
In 1992, Frank Hayes (1921-1997), a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Grantsburg, proposed the food shelf plan to area churches. Frank saw some families and individuals needing more food. He invited other churches to join. The food shelf began operating with four churches participating. It is has grown to nine churches and one group from a former church. The food shelf was first located on Grantsburg’s Main Street. About 2009, the food shelf moved to its present location in the Grantsburg Village Center. During its nearly 30 years of continuous service, the volunteer food shelf managers have been Frank Hayes, Debra Allaman Johnson, Chuck Peterson, Linda Anderson, Terri Andersen, and Dave Doskey.
